In 2015 in the Embassy of Latgale GORS performed Nils Landgren, the Swedish R&B, funk and jazz trombone player. “Music knows no borders, music is freedom,” – this is Nils Landgren’s credo.
In this special Season’s greetings concert, Latvian Radio Big Band and Swedish super-trombonist perform compositions ranging from Sting’s “Fragile” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” to such Christmas classics as “Jullatar Nisse” in special, new arrangements for a big band.
Landgren has appeared on some 500 albums, including collections from artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, ABBA, the Crusaders, the Brecker Brothers, Airto Moreira, Till Brönner, Roy Hargrove and Wyclef Jean and, in doing so, has continually broadened his horizons.
He advises the NDR Big Band on artistic matters and as artistic director, the programme of the JazzFest Berlin (from 2008 until 2011).
In May 2002 Nils was honored with the prestigious “Thore Ehrling Award” by the Swedish Society of Popular Composers for his “contribution to spread Swedish jazz music around the globe”.
