The carillon coming from the Cathedral of Saint Sofia in Novgorod is one of the most powerful impressions of Sergey Rachmaninoff`s childhood. The motives of it could be heard in oratorio “Bells”, where the fortunate blue sky and the blanket of the dark grey clouds are interwoven in the beautiful and mighty score. Alongside – a hulking depiction of the Soviet-era with the reflections of tragedies of the World War II and the sketches from the post-war realities.
